It was lying in the middle of the road when I went out to walk the dog. I thought, “I’ll pick it up on the way back.” It wasn’t there. Someone else nabbed the bottle before me. You didn’t drop one yesterday. Or maybe you did and that same someone picked it up then too. Someone besides me is watching and picking up after you.
This past weekend I went to traffic school. In December I was involved in a car accident. It was my fault, I wasn’t paying attention. Mind you, I wasn’t on the phone, just not focused on driving. When the instructor covered alcohol and drugs at the end of the day, I thought about you.
You have a lot to lose. Your license (if you haven’t already.) Your insurance. Your vehicle. Your job. Your life. Driving under the influence is a risky – for you and others. You may think that because you’ve developed some sort of tolerance you are immune. That is magical thinking. You are selfish to think that your behavior will not affect anyone else. It is only a matter of time.
A friend of mine suggested that I put out a bucket on the corner and label it as a vodka bottle drop. Would you just start dropping them somewhere else because I shamed you?
